Which sections of the society did the educated Indians came from?

Educated Indians who were also known as `the professional classes’, Intelligentsia’, the English educated elite or the educated middle class, represented that giving of or section of society which acquired western education and began to assert some kind Of regional or national leadership. The members who belonged to this section of society could not be termed as poor as they generally belonged from higher castes.

However they could be called elite as they seemed to be the selected part of the society. During 19th century this class played a great role in working for the cause of religious and social reforms, in India by writing patriotic songs, plays and novels, establishing political organization and making economic critique of the British Raj
